UN expects more Vietnamese troops for peacekeeping: official

Xinhua, June 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

The United Nations (UN) expects to receive more Vietnamese troops in joining its peacekeeping operations, said Herve Ladsous, UN under-secretary-general for peacekeeping operations on Wednesday.

Ladsous made the remark at a meeting with Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in capital Hanoi on Wednesday during his visit to Vietnam.

Speaking highly of Vietnam's participation in the UN peacekeeping operations by sending troops to South Sudan, Ladsous said the UN hopes Vietnam to continue supporting its peacekeeping missions.

The visiting UN official highlighted Vietnam's proposal to deploy a field hospital by the end of 2015, a military engineering company by the end of 2016 as well as other missions within Vietnam's capacity.

Dung, for his part, praised the UN's role in maintaining peace, international security and contributing to solving conflicts and disputes through peaceful means.

Dung expected the UN to continue supporting Vietnam for more effective participation in peacekeeping operations. Vietnam is willing to dispatch more troops to other UN missions worldwide, said Dung. Endi
