Singapore surges past 50 golds at SEA Games

Xinhua, June 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Singapore has reached a new sporting milestone on Tuesday when it surged over 50 gold medals at the 28th SEA Games, local media reported.

Swimmer Tao Li clinched Singapore's 50th gold medal on Tuesday winning the 100-meter women's backstroke event.

After that, the "Swimmer Quan" Zheng Wen rewrote the record in winning the 400-meter individual medley.

Singapore's previous best-ever haul at the Games came in 1993 when it last hosted the biennial sporting event. At that time, Singapore won 50 gold medals.

At the last SEA Games in 2013, Singapore ranked 6th with a haul of 34 gold, 29 silver and 45 bronze medals. Endi
