Chinese state councilor meets OPCW chief

Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) director-general Ahmet Uzumcu in Beijing on Tuesday.

Since taking effect in 1997, the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) has played an important role in disarmament and non-proliferation and has become an important part of the international security system, Yang said.

He said China supports the convention's goal and will fulfill its obligations.

Uzumcu appreciated China's implementation of the convention and spoke highly of China's role in the OPCW, expressing willingness to enhance cooperation and communication. Endi
