Eurozone Q1 GDP up by 0.4 pct

Seasonally adjusted gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.4 percent in both the euro area and the European Union (EU) during the first quarter of 2015, compared with the previous quarter, official figures indicated on Tuesday.

In the fourth quarter of 2014, GDP also grew by 0.4 percent in both areas, according to a second estimate published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the EU.

Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.0 percent in the euro area and by 1.5 percent in the EU in the first quarter this year.

Among the member states, the Czech Republic, Cyprus and Romania recorded the highest growth compared with the previous quarter, followed by Poland, Bulgaria and Spain, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.

Decreases were registered in Lithuania, Estonia, Greece and Finland. Endit
