Spain's housing sales increase by 9.4 pct in April

Spanish housing sales increased by 9.4 percent in April, compared with the same month in 2014, according to data published on Tuesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
The INE reported that a total of 27,241 operations were registered in April, which meant that housing sales have been rising for eight consecutive months on a year-on-year basis. However, housing sales fell by 0.1 percent from March to April.
Sales of second-hand houses rose by 45.5 percent reaching 21,014 purchases on a year-on-year basis and rose by 1.6 percent on a month-to-month basis.
Sales of new houses fell by 40.4 percent in April when compared with a year earlier to a total of 6,227 purchases, which meant a 5.6 percent fall on a month-to-month basis.
Meanwhile, sales of subsidized houses rose by 15.2 percent in April in comparison with a year earlier to 3,151, while those of non-subsidized houses rose by 8.7 percent. From March to April sales of subsidized houses rose by 12.3 percent and those of non-subsidized houses fell by 1.6 percent.
The INE also reported that in the first four months of the year housing sales rose by 9.1 when compared with the same period of a year earlier. Endit
