Croatian war veterans continue their seven-month long protest

Xinhua, June 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Croatian war veterans on Monday after negotiations with the government announced they would continue their protest, which started seven months ago.

Djuro Glogoski, one of the leaders of the veterans' protest, said they would continue talks with government but did not want Veterans' Minister Predrag Matic to represent the government at the talks.

Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic, who attended the first half of latest negotiations, said Matic would remain the leader of the negotiation from the government's side.

Further talks would focus on solving issues such as pensions and health care, Glogoski added.

Since October, veterans have been protesting in front of the building of War Veterans' Ministry, where they set tents for nights, demanding the resignation of Matic and for parliament to pass a constitutional law granting war veterans additional privileges.

Monday's talks, held in the Veterans Ministry, lasted three-and-a-half hours and was also attended by Defense Minister Ante Kotromanovic. Endit
