Mozambique not affected by corruption in FIFA, says FMF chairperson

Xinhua, June 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

The chairperson of the Mozambican Football Federation (FMF), Feizal Sidat, has said that corruption in FIFA does not affect Mozambique, even with the resignation of its president Sepp Blatter, local media reported on Sunday.

The state newspaper Noticias quoted Sidat as saying "all the projects under way in the country, under FIFA, will continue, even with the resignation of Sepp Blatter."

"We believe that we will continue having FIFA as our partner, even without Blatter. We have the guarantee of putting grass on many football stadiums," he was quoted as saying.

Sidat said that the FIFA executive committee has already approved a project to rehabilitate the Ferroviario football pitch in Mocuba, in the central province of Zambezia, after the region suffered this year's floods.

According to Sidat, it is too early for Mozambique to react to the FIFA corruption charges, alleging "it is necessary to wait until the climate stabilizes."

Blatter will continue to lead FIFA up to December this year, or March in 2016, until the next FIFA extraordinary congress is held. "And we have to wait for CAF's reaction. It might be possible that Africa can choose its candidate to succeed Blatter or supporting, for example, Platini, who under UEFA has been supporting projects on the development of African football."

Sidat went on to say that corruption in FIFA will also not going to affect elections in the FMF elections to take place probably in December this year. Endi
