Jordan, Belgium urge continued efforts to fight terror

Xinhua, June 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Jordan and Belgium called Sunday for continuing efforts to fight terrorist groups, as the two countries are taking part in a U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State (IS) group, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

The call was made during a meeting between Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and his Belgian counterpart Didier Reynders in Amman.

Terrorism poses the largest threat to the region and the entire world, they stressed.

The top Jordanian diplomat said Belgium plays a key role in the U.S.-led coalition against the IS, which controls large areas in Iraq and Syria.

Judeh added that the acts of the terrorist groups have nothing to do with Islam, stressing that these militant groups tarnish the image of the religion.

Jordan has been intensifying its efforts against the IS after the militant group burnt alive early this year a Jordanian pilot it had captured after his plane crashed over Syria.

On the peace process, Jordan and Belgium stressed the need for resuming peace talks between the Palestinians and Israel.

Any talks, they said, should lead to the establishment of a Palestinian state within the borders of 1967 with east Jerusalem as its capital. Endit
