Direct bus service on two new routes between Bangladesh, India inaugurated

Xinhua, June 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh and India have inaugurated direct bus service on two new routes between the two countries.

Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her visiting Indian counterpart Narendra Modi flagged off Kolkata-Dhaka- Agartala and Dhaka-Shillong-Guwahati bus services here on Saturday afternoon.

Sources said the new bus services from Kolkata to Agartala in India via Bangladesh capital Dhaka would benefit more Indians traveling between Indian states of West Bengal and Tripura.

On the other hand, they said buses to ply on Dhaka-Shillong and Guwahati in India will also immensely benefit Indians.

The direct bus connection from Kolkata to Agartala via Dhaka would reportedly reduce the travel distance from 1,650 km to 400 km for India people between West Bengal and Tripura.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for a two-day visit.

A number of deals, including one on the much-awaited land boundary, are expected to be signed during Modi's visit. Endi
