China's Huawei to offer Botswana's youth technical training

Chinese tech giant Huawei on Thursday said it has started negotiations with Botswana's government over enrolling Botswana's students into its technical training program named "Seeds for the Future".

Cyril Xu, Public Communications Manager at Huawei Botswana, confirmed that they are in discussions with the ministry of transport and communications and the ministry of education and skills development, to initiate the training program in the country.

"Huawei believes the selected students will become an important force for the local information and communications technology (ICT) development," he said.

The "Seeds for the Future" program was announced by Huawei's senior executive Charles Ding during a panel discussion entitled "Africa Mobile Technology" at the ongoing 2015 World Economic Forum on Africa in Cape Town, South Africa.

The company plans to enroll over 1,000 students across Africa into the program over the next five years in a bid to build ICT capabilities in Africa.

To date, over 10,000 students worldwide have benefited from Huawei's "Seeds for the Future" program. Endi
