Twelve people were injured on Friday morning here after two metro trains collided.
The crash took place shortly after 10 a.m. (0800 GMT) on the metro line B at EUR Palasport station.
The incident occurred when one train arriving at the station smashed into the back of another, which had received a green light and was about to leave the platform, according to firefighters arriving first on the scene.
None of the passengers involved was seriously injured, Rome's transport councillor Guido Improta said.
"There are 12 people injured, but none was assigned a red code (for life-threatening cases)," Improta told SkyTg24 TV channel.
Two people remained trapped in the wreckage of the trains for a while, and the most serious case concerned one person suffering a fracture of the pelvis.
"We must now understand how exactly the incident occurred. Yet, it was weird, and surely due to a human error," Improta said.
The crash would have occurred at a speed of about 30 km per hour, the councillor added.
The incident did not cause major disruption to Rome metro service, but the line B was suspended for some time in the stretch between the EUR Palasport station and the end of the line. Endit
