68 immigrants found in container in eastern England

Xinhua, June 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Sixty-eight people, including two pregnant women, were found locked in a container at a port in eastern Essex on Thursday night, local media reported on Friday.

It was reported that the cargo container was found by the Border Force at Harwich International Port during routine checks at about 10 p.m. (2100 GMT) on Thursday.

The two pregnant women and five others have been sent to Colchester General Hospital in Essex for treatment. No life-threatening injuries or serious conditions have been reported to date.

"The patients who were taken to hospital were suffering from abdominal and chest pains and were feeling faint," according to an ambulance spokesman.

The remaining 61 others were assessed by the East of England Ambulance Service and released to the UK Border Agency officials, the spokesman said.

Local media said people with different nationalities were involved, and the container was thought to have come from Holland. Endit
