Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday that the city of Shima, Mie Prefecture in central Japan will be the venue for next year's G7 summit, local media reported.
Before his departure for this year's G7 summit in Germany, Abe said he picked the city from eight candidate sites due to its saw- tooth coastline so that "world leaders will feel cultural tradition and beautiful nature," according to Japan's Kyodo News Agency.
The prime minister also expressed hope that the leaders will visit Ise Shrine, dedicated to the ancestral deities of the Japanese imperial family. The Shinto shrine, which dates back around 2,000 years, is located in Mie Prefecture. Endi
