Qatar's Ogunode renews men's 100m Asian record at Asian Championships

Qatar's sprinter Femi Ogunode broke the Asian record of the men's 100m at the Asian Athletics Championships here on Thursday.

Ogunode, who broke the CR on Wednesday's semifinals with a 9.97 finish, timed 9.91 in the final, 0.02 second faster than his own Asian record made in Incheon Asian Games last year.

"Today it is not a surprise for me because last year in the Asian Games I did not have a coach. I was training alone. Now I have a coach so this is not a surprise," said the winner.

"Today's result is just like training. This is not my best. This is nothing," added the confident Qatari.

It was raining when the final took place, and Ogunode said the weather was not a problem.

"I am good in any weather. I am ready in any weather, in any condition and anywhere," he said.

China's Zhang Peimeng, who clocked his personal best 10 seconds at Moscow worlds 2013, finished second in 10.15, while Iran's Reza Ghasemi took third in 10.19.

"I am still finding my form," said Zhang. "When competing with someone stronger than me, I tried hard to keep my own rhythm."

Su Bingtian, the defending champion who improved the national record to 9.99 at IAAF Diamond League meeting in Eugene on Saturday, skipped the individual event. Endi
