Morocco arrests 9 alleged IS recruiters

Xinhua, June 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Moroccan authorities announced Wednesday that they have arrested nine alleged Islamic State (IS) recruiters operating in several cities in the North African kingdom.

"According to accurate data, the terrorist cell members made secret contacts with leaders of IS to coordinate operations of sending Moroccan volunteer fighters to this hot spot and providing them with necessary financial support," the interior ministry said in a statement.

The ministry revealed that among the dismantled cell members, there is a former convict who was sued under the anti-terror law and belonged to a terrorist network linked to "Al-Qaida in Iraq" which was dismantled in 2008.

The accused will be brought to justice once the investigation is completed under the supervision of the public prosecutor, the Moroccan authorities said. Endit
