Clashes in S. Afghanistan leave 3 insurgents dead

Three insurgents were killed and six others, including three policemen, sustained injuries as clashes flared up in the southern Helmand province on Wednesday, Afghan police said.

"A group of Taliban rebels raided a police checkpoint on a road in Tabili area early Wednesday morning and police returned fire, triggering a gun battle during which three armed insurgents had been killed and six others, including three insurgents and three police, sustained injuries," senior highway police officer in the province, Abdul Satar Norzai, told reporters.

Taliban militant,s who have speeded up activities since launching their annual spring offensive on April 24, are yet to make comment. Endi
