Euro zone retail trade up by 0.7 pct in April

The seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade in April rose by 0.7 percent in the euro zone and by 0.6 percent in the European Union (EU), the statistical office of the EU Eurostat said on Wednesday.

Compared with April 2014, the retail sales index increased by 2.2 percent in the euro zone and by 2.6 percent in the 28-member EU.

Among EU member states for which data are available, the highest increases in total retail trade were registered in Ireland, up by 3 percent, followed by Romania with 3.1 percent and Germany with 1.7 percent.

According to Eurostat, retail trade increased in the EU due to rises of 3.3 percent for non-food sector and of 3.2 percent for automotive fuel and of 1.1 percent for food, drinks and tobacco. Endit
