President Xi calls for integrity, patriotism among children

President Xi Jinping has encouraged children in China to love their country, being a good person and make contribution to social progress in future.

Xi was speaking to members of the Chinese Young Pioneers (CYP) organization at the CYP's quinquennial congress in Beijing on Monday, International Children's Day.

The President said he hoped that children can be role models of socialist core values by continuing to live within traditional and socialist values; by embracing life; show gratitude and kindness to others; and always being well mannered and showing integrity.

Children should be decent people and carefully cultivate their own virtue, he added.

Xi said they should always carry the motherland and its people in their hearts.

"A person can have a lot of aspirations but the most important one should be about the motherland and people," he said. "Your aspiration should be to seek truth and serve the country." Endi
