Mozambique to play for COSAFA Cup against Namibia

Xinhua, May 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Mozambican National Soccer team "the Mambas" are to play on Saturday in the South African city of Rustunburg against Namibia in the finals of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA).

It is the second time Mozambique reaches the final in the tournament. The first time was in 2008, when it was beat by South Africa 2-1. "It is this time that we are going to snatch the cup," says the Mambas' coach, Joao Chissano.

Chissano also said his boys are in good shape. But Chissano hailed Namibians as the "best" national soccer team, saying the Saturday's game will be a difficult one for Mozambique. "The Namibians are not going to facilitate us."

The game will start at 1700 hours, South African and Mozambican time, in Rustenburg.

To reach the final, the Mambas defeated Malawi, one of the serious candidates for the COSAFA Cup, and managed to play the final with Namibia, thanks to the victory last week by beating Botswana 2-1 also in Rustenburg.

Chissano bet on Dominguez, the team's best striker, who plays in South Africa.

The Mambas trained on Friday for the Saturday's game, and Chissano said the players are very motivated. Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, said Friday on the final day of his tour to the Nigerian capital, Abuja that "Mozambique must win the game." Endi
