Uganda boxing team departs for Africa Military Championship in Tunisia

Super Heavy Weight Micheal Sekabembe is part of Uganda' s team that left on Saturday for the 4th Africa Military Boxing Championship in Tunisia.

Sekabembe who won a bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland told Xinhua that he is in good form to win a medal for Uganda when the event takes place June 1-8.

The event organised by the National Defence Ministry of Tunisia will attract 18 African military teams.

Brig. Phinehas Katirima, the Chief of Education, Sports and Culture in the Ugandan military led delegation.

Head Coach Oscar Binka said that his seven boxers have prepared well and should be able to win some medals for the country.

He said although he expects tough competition from the hosts Tunisia and Kenya, the three weeks of training have been adequate for his team.

While Mike Aloni Cherop will captain the team, the other boxers include; Moses Mutaka (Lightwelter weight), Abdul Hassan (Light weight), Swaib Matovu (Light heavy weight), Nasser Bukenya (walter weight) and Tabu Batista (middle weight). Endi
