Heavy downpours in south China to weaken

Xinhua, May 30, 2015 Adjust font size:

Persistent downfalls that have wreaked havoc in south China will start to weaken over the weekend, the National Meteorological Center (NMC) predicted on Saturday.

The NMC removed the blue alert for rainstorms on Saturday morning, although modest to heavy rain will continue to hit Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Fujian and Guangdong provinces, as well as Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Rainfall in those regions is set to weaken on Sunday.

However, a new round of downpours will hit some parts in the provinces of Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu and Hubei from Monday to Tuesday, the NMC forecast, warning of strong gales along the way.

China has a four-tier color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue. Endi
