Elano contract clause points to India return

Xinhua, May 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Manchester City and Brazil international midfielder Elano could rejoin Indian Super League club Chennaiyin FC in September despite extending a deal with Brazil's Santos.

The 33-year-old told reporters on Thursday he had agreed in principal to a new deal tying him to Santos until April 2016.

Newspaper Estado de S.Paulo reported that a contract clause will allow Elano to join Chennaiyin on loan for the three-month Indian Super League season.

Elano signed a four-month deal with Santos in January and helped the team to victory in the Sao Paulo state championship final last month.

It followed a successful spell with Chennaiyin in the Indian Super League's first season.

He was the competition's leading scorer with eight goals, despite missing more than a third of the season with a calf injury.

Capped 50 times for Brazil, Elano has won six trophies in three separate spells at Santos. Endi
