Tokyo shares open higher on weaker yen

Tokyo shares opened higher Thursday on a weaker yen which boosted the purchase of export-oriented issue.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 97.78 points, or 0.48 percent, from Wednesday to 20,570.36.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 8.44 points, or 0.51 percent, at 1,669. 77. Endi
