Dutch retailer Ahold posts sales growth in Q1

Dutch retailer Ahold recorded a significant rise of net sales in the first quarter of 2015, the firm stated Wednesday.

Net sales increased by 14.9 percent from 9.82 billion euros (10.68 billion U.S. dollars) in the first quarter of 2014 to 11.28 billion euros in the first three months of this year. The rise was mostly due to the strong U.S. dollar, with net sales at constant currency exchange rates growing by 1.4 percent.

The net sales of Ahold in the United States grew by 19.9 percent from 5.859 billion euros in the first quarter of 2014 to 7.026 billion euros in Q1 this year, while net sales of Ahold in Netherlands increased by 5.7 percent from 3.547 billion to 3.748 billion euros.
