Indonesia's capital of tsunami- stricken province, Banda Aceh, held an international workshop on tsunami mitigation and disaster risk management, participated by 7 countries prone to tsunami disaster other than Indonesia, a statement released by the Indonesian foreign affairs said on Wednesday.

The workshop event, entitled "International Training on Disaster Risk Management for IORA Member Countries, Southern America and Caribbean Countries" was co-organized by the ministry' s technical cooperation section, USAID and Indonesia's Tsunami and Disaster Risk Mitigation Center (TDRMC), to last on June 4 after it commenced from May 25.

"Sharing the experiences and knowledge should be conducted prone from tsunami disaster so as to make them capable in anticipating and responsive to the risks caused by disaster," Head of Information and Public Diplomacy at the ministry Esti Andayani said in her remarks to open the workshop.

Besides from Indonesia, the 10-day workshop is participated by experts from Sri Lanka, Comoros, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The workshop was part of events to commemorate 10 years of deadly tsunami that ransacked Aceh and several countries in Indian Ocean coastal areas.

It also serves as Indonesia's support to IORA (Indian Ocean Rim Association) as it holds its chairmanship from 2015 to 2017.

Indonesia's Aceh province saw the most severe impact from the tsunami disaster that occurred on Dec. 26, 2004 in Indian Ocean, with over 175,000 people killed in the province from a total of more than 230,000 perished in 14 affected countries. Endi
