Germany coach Loew picks up Monchengladbach midfielder Herrmann

Xinhua, May 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Joachim Loew selected midfielder Patrick Herrmann for the upcoming international caps against the United States and Gibraltar after revealing his 20-men squad on Tuesday.

The FIFA World champions encounter the USA for a friendly in Cologne on June 10 before they clash Gibraltar for the EURO 2016 qualifiers in Faro three days later.

Stuttgart's Antonio Ruediger and Monchengladbach's Patrick Herrmann return into the squad. Defender Antonio Ruediger already made five appearances for the "Nationalelf", his last in November 2014 against Spain, meanwhile midfielder Patrick Herrmann earned his first call up in March 2013 but was unable to make his debut against Kazakhstan.

Germany coach Loew gives the world champions, goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, midfielder Toni Kroos and Thomas Mueller a break. "I give Thomas and Toni a break as I could always count on them in the past. They have done a lot for the national team. Therefore they deserved a break."

Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer didn't make it into the squad for medical reasons. "Our team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt has informed me that Manuel can't train without pain. The long season left its marks."

Nevertheless, Germany's 20-man squad consists of 13 FIFA world champions who snatched the title in Brazil.

Following is the full squad:

Goalkeeper: Roman Weidenfeller (Dortmund), Ron-Robert Zieler (Hannover)

Defender: Jerome Boateng (Bayern), Erik Durm (Dortmund), Jonas Hector (Cologne), Mats Hummels (Dortmund), Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia), Antonio Ruediger (Stuttgart), Sebastian Rudy (Hoffenheim)

Midfielder: Karim Bellarabi (Leverkusen), Ilkay Guendogan (Dortmund), Patrick Herrmann (Monchengladbach), Sami Khedira (Real Madrid), Christoph Kramer (Monchengladbach), Mesut Oezil (FC Arsenal), Lukas Podolski (Internazionale Milano), Andre Schuerrle (Wolfsburg), Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern)

Forwards: Mario Goezte (Bayern), Max Kruse (Monchengladbach). Endi
