EU promotes green energy by launching new platform

Xinhua, May 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

The European Commission on Tuesday launched the European Smart specialization platform on energy in order to promote green and sustainable energy in Europe.

The new Platform on Energy will provide information, knowledge and expertise on investing in energy projects, and help regions to share their expertise on sustainable energy investments and especially on the deployment of innovative low-carbon technologies.

By supporting the optimal use of Cohesion Policy funds for sustainable energy projects, the Platform will directly contribute to the European Energy Union Strategy.

For 2014-2020, more than 38 billion euros (41.44 billion U.S. dollars) of Cohesion Policy funding will be invested in achieving the Energy Union Strategy and boosting the shift towards a low-carbon economy in all sectors, according to Corina Cretu, European Commissioner for Regional Policy.

"This represents more than a doubling of funding compared to the previous period," the commissioner said. Endit
