Eintracht Frankfurt coach Thomas Schaaf steps down

Xinhua, May 26, 2015 Adjust font size:

Frankfurt head coach Thomas Schaaf resigned out of the blue, both sides announced on Tuesday.

The 54-year-old coach stepped down surprisingly with immediate effect after just one season with the "Eagles". According to German media Thomas Schaaf leaves Frankfurt due to continual criticism by the clubs bosses.

"The recent public statements and the presentation of my work and and led to incredible and incomprehensible accusations and assumptions in the media, which I can't and won't accept. Therefore we agreed to part company," Thomas Schaaf said in an official statement.

The former long-time Werder Bremen coach took over from Armin Veh in July 2014 and singed a two-year deal with Frankfurt. Nevertheless, after just one season Schaaf asked the club for the dissolution of his contract.

"Thomas Schaaf more than fulfilled the club's season goals with the 9th place and 43 points. The collaboration was good with him. We also confirmed this repeatedly in the public in recent days. We regret that Thomas Schaaf decided to resign. We never talked to other coaches while he was in charge. We wish Thomas Schaaf all the best," Frankfurt's CEO Heribert Bruchhagen said in a press release. Endi
