Xinhua, May 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Visiting United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed hopes for Vietnam to realize its development goals when meeting Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Tan Dung in Vietnam's capital Hanoi on Friday.

Talking with the Vietnamese PM, Ban Ki-moon said the UN wishes to build a developed world where people can live in a good environment and nobody is left behind, according to the website of Vietnamese government.

The UN is taking high priority in calling on countries around the world to join hands to realize development goals in economic, social and environment areas, Ban said, expressing his hope that Vietnam can continue to take part in the mission.

For his part, the Vietnamese PM said his country always looks for more practical and effective cooperation with the UN.

Vietnam is willing to coordinate with the UN and the international community to implement action agenda on development, including the post-2015 sustainable development goals, for peace and prosperity in the region and the world, Dung said.

The Vietnamese PM said he hopes to continue receiving the UN's supports and consultation in policy making to increase the country 's capacity in building Vietnam development goals, including an action plan and strategy in tackling climate change and sea level rise as Vietnam is likely to be among the countries hardest hit by such environment changes.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Vietnam's candidacy in UN agencies in the coming time, and discussed Vietnam 's efforts in building a state under the rule of law, human rights, and anti-corruption work in Vietnam, among others.

The UN chief Ban Ki-moon is paying a two-day visit to Vietnam. On Friday, Ban held talks with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang and met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The UN chief is scheduled to meet with Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh and attend an inaugural ceremony of the Green One UN House in Vietnam on Saturday. Endi
