Slovak Parliament passes new civil codes

Xinhua, May 21, 2015 Adjust font size:

Slovak MPs passed a civil litigation procedure, civil extra-litigation procedure and an administrative court procedure on Thursday.

These new rules, which deal with the protection of citizens' and entrepreneurs' rights in court, will take effect as of July 2016, thereby replacing the civil court procedure from 1963, which has been amended more than 80 times.

"I'm extremely satisfied. The vote showed that these rules have been well prepared. They were passed by more than a constitutional majority, which gives them a high level of legitimacy," stressed Justice Minister Tomas Borec.

Courts will observe the civil litigation procedure in standard litigation cases. The civil extra-litigation procedure deals with decisions concerning status issues, custody and legal capacity. The administrative court procedure focuses on powers and responsibilities in administrative courts.

The ministry promises that the new codes will lead to more effective, economical and fair civil procedures in court and better protection of physical and legal entities. Endit
