Vietnamese FM to visit Thailand, Myanmar to boost ties

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh will visit Thailand and Myanmar from May 24 to May 29 to boost ties, said a Vietnamese official here on Thursday.

Le Hai Binh, spokesperson of Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the announcement at a regular press briefing held in capital Hanoi on Thursday.

According to Binh, the purpose of Minh's visit to Thailand is to prepare for the third joint Vietnam-Thailand cabinet meeting, boost cooperation in labor, fishing and large investment projects by Vietnamese and Thai enterprises as well as enhance bilateral coordination in regional and international forums.

Meanwhile, Minh will tour Myanmar to co-chair the eighth Vietnam-Myanmar joint committee on economics, trade, culture, science and technology cooperation, which contributes to promoting traditional relations with Myanmar, bolstering economic ties and increasing effectiveness of the committee.

The visit also aims to review current situation of cooperation between two countries, and point out directions for developing bilateral relations in the coming time, Binh told reporters. Endi
