No surprise on first day of Asian Women's Volleyball Championship

South Korea and Thailand respectively won 3-0 on the first day of the 18th Asian Women' s Volleyball Championship here on Wednesday.

South Korea soon established a 1-0 lead with 25-22 in the first set. They were 14-5 up in the second one before Kazakhstan scored five points in a row after the time-out. But the champion of 2014 Inchon Asian Games still managed to won again with 25-16. In the third set, Kim Yeonkoung' s smash helped South Korea take the victory away with another 25-22.

Kim Yeonkoung had a game-high 22 points while Sana Anarkulova led Kazakhstan with 14 points.

As the defending champion of Asian Champions, Thailand also had an easy victory over Chinese Taipei, 25-18, 25-18, 25-19.

As team Fiji failed to arrive Tianjin before the match, their national team decided to withdraw and team China automatically won 3-0 today. Their home debut of the Asian Champions will be tomorrow night' s match with the Indians.

In other matches today, Vietnam downed Japan 3-2, Australia beat the Philippines 3-1, Iran upset India 3-1, Chinese Hong Kong smashed Sri Lanka 3-0, Mongolia also won automatically 3-0 after Turkmenistan withdrew. Endi
