Late goal helps Beijing tie Jeonbuk 1-1 on road

Xinhua, May 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pablo Batalla scored a late goal to help Beijing Guoan struggle to a 1-1 draw with Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors at the AFC Champions League Round of 16 on Tuesday.

Kim Kee-Hee had given Jeonbuk a surprising lead in the 13th minute, receiving the free kick from Leonardo and scoring by his header.

Although the surprising feature of this game's first half was Beijing's dominance of possession 59 percent, Beijing hadn't finished the equalizer before the half time whistle.

Batalla equalized the score in the 85th minute when he beat Jeonbuk goalkeeper Kwoun Sun-Tae in a penalty kick challenge.

Beijing is looking forward to becoming the third team from Chinese Super League (CSL) who have entered the quarterfinal, but Jeonbuk will get another chance to show what it can do on next Tuesday in Beijing.

Shanghai Shenhua, the predecessor of Shanghai Greenland, was the first CSL team which had entered the quarterfinal stage in the AFC Champions League in 2006. The 2013 winner of the title, Guangzhou Evergrande, had been in the last 8 in season 2012. Endi
