Moderate quake strikes off eastern Indonesia

An earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Maluku in eastern parts of Indonesia on Tuesday, the Meteorology and Geophysics Agency reported here.

The quake hit at 14 : 22 p.m. Jakarta time (0722 GMT) with epicenter at 218 km northwest Maluku Tenggara Barat and with the depth at 150 km under sea bed, an official of the agency told Xinhua over phone.

Indonesia is prone to quake as it lies on a vulnerable quake- hit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire." Endi
