Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 50 persons were injured Friday, mostly policemen, when the dome over a stage being erected for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public rally collapsed in a storm, said Press Trust of India.

"While the work was underway, suddenly the weather changed and a severe storm hit the place, damaging a portion of the dome which fell on the police personnel and workers present," the report quoted Inspector General of Police G. P. Singh as saying in Raipur.

The prime minister's plan to address the rally in the state capital of Chhattisgarh Raipur on Saturday was canceled after the incident, said the report.

Modi was scheduled to inaugurate an Indian Institute of Information Technology campus and a police headquarters besides laying the foundation stone for construction of 40,000 affordable houses for the poor during the planned event. Endi
