Security measures temporarily raised at domestic U.S. military bases: report

Xinhua, May 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Security measures at domestic U.S. military bases have been temporarily raised due to growing concern of terror threats across the country, U.S. media reported Friday.

The status, put into effect Thursday night, placed U.S. military bases at so-called "Force Protection Bravo," which is defined by the U.S. military as an "increased and predictable threat of terrorism."

"We have ... concern about the potential threat posed by violent homegrown extremists," a CNN report said, quoting Captain Jeff Davis, spokesman for the U.S. Northern Command, which oversees all U.S. military installations in the continental U.S. " We are doing this as a prudent measure due to a lot of things in the news lately."

Davis noted that this change is "not tied to a specific credible threat."

According to the CNN report, U.S. military bases generally have not been at the "Bravo" level since the 10th anniversary of the 9/ 11 terror attacks.

The heightened security came hours after FBI Director James Comey warned that there are thousands of Islamic State followers online in the United States. Endite
