Seoul shares ended lower on Thursday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index declined 13.58 points, or 0.65 percent, to 2,091.00 at the close. Trading volume stood at 418.76 million shares worth 5.37 trillion won (4.93 billion U.S. dollars).

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended sharply lower on Thursday with its benchmark Nikkei stocks index retreating to a five-week low, as the global selloff of government bonds triggered speculation borrowing costs will rise.

The turnover was about 2,861.7 billion yen (about 23.96 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Thursday down 0. 23 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 3.41 points to 1,457.90. A total of 43,001 shares worth about 323 million Lao kip (about 40,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.73 percent lower on Thursday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 57. 37 points to 7816.27. The all-share index went down by 26.06 points, or 0.57 percent, to 4515.92.

Trading volume reached 2.07 billion shares worth 13.09 billion pesos ( 293.99 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in southern Vietnam, closed at 552.98 points on Thursday, up 3.68 points, or 0.67 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

A total of 22.656 million shares worth 467.2 billion VND (21.55 million U.S. dollars) were traded on Thursday.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 1.16 percent on Thursday with the weighted index down 114.09 points at 9,704.11, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 94.35 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.07 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed down 350.94 points, or 1. 27 percent to 27,289.97 points on Thursday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,207.28 and 27, 604.49. Turnover totaled 161.64 billion HK dollars (about 20.83 billion U.S. dollars).

BEIJING -- Chinese shares plunged on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index down by 2.77 percent to finish at 4,112.21 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index dropped 0.15 percent to close at 14,114.73 points.

The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, fell 1.42 percent to end at 2,806.05 points.

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Thursday.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,805.10 down 15. 87 points or 0.88 percent, and the Emas was at 12,458.47 down 96. 13 points or 0.77 percent.

Turnover increased to 1.56 billion shares valued at 1.97 billion ringgit Malaysia(547.98 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 79.94 points on Thursday, up 0.55 points, or 0.7 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of nearly 34.925 million shares worth around 388.487 billion Vietnamese dong (some 18.2 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Thursday.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Thursday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 27.01 points, or 0.78 percent, to close at 3,432.78.

A total of 1.45 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 11 billion Singapore dollars (834.6 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed lower by 34.46 points, or 0. 66 percent, to a level of 5,150.49 on Thursday.

Some 248,632 transactions were booked, involving 7.18 billion shares worth 6.21 trillion rupiah (about 475.01 million U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange)Broad Index closed Thursday at 4,089.88 points, up 32.44 points or about 0.79 percent from Wednesday's finish. Total turnover increased to about 4.19 billion taka (about 53.76 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday from about 3.64 billion taka ( about 46.78 million U.S. dollars) on Wednesday.
