1st LD Writethru: 15 militants killed in Afghan northern Takhar province

A total of 15 Taliban militants were killed in the northern Takhar province with Taluqan city as its capital, 245 km north of Kabul, on Thursday morning, provincial government spokesman, Sunatullah Timor said.

"A group of armed Taliban fighters attacked the residents of Hajji Mullah Omar, the governor of Khawja Ghar district in Hazarbagh area at around 05:00 a.m. local time today and the bodyguards of the district governor returned fire leaving 15 attackers dead," Timor told Xinhua.

All the 15 dead bodies are with security personnel, the official said.

Only one bodyguard of the governor was injured during the firefight which lasted for a while, the spokesman said.

Taliban militants have intensified activities since launching their so-called annual spring offensive on April 24 across the conflict-ridden Afghanistan are yet to make comment. Endi
