Tokyo shares open lower on weak U.S. performance

Tokyo shares opened lower Thursday after a long holiday, tracing losses in the recent U.S. market.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 101.30 points, or 0.52 percent, from last Friday to 19,430.33.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 1.59 points, or 0.10 percent, to 1, 584.02.

The Tokyo stocks market was closed Monday through Wednesday for public holidays. Endi
