The U.S. dollar decreased against other major currencies on Tuesday as economic data from the country came out mixed.

U.S. international trade deficit in goods and services rose to 51.4 billion U.S. dollars in March from a revised level of 35.9 billion dollars in February, reported the Department of Commerce on Tuesday. The March trade deficit was the largest since October 2008 and above market consensus of 42.0 billion dollars.

Meanwhile, the Non-Manufacturing Index registered 57.8 percent in April, 1.3 percentage points higher than the March reading of 56.5 percent, showing continued growth in the U.S. non- manufacturing sector, said the Institute for Supply Management in its monthly survey on Tuesday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was down 0.45 percent at 95.055 in late trading.

In late New York trading, the euro climbed to 1.1195 dollars from 1.1140 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound rose to 1.5177 dollars from 1.5118 dollars in the previous session.

The Australian dollar went up to 0.7942 dollars from 0.7846 dollars. The U.S. dollar bought 119.87 Japanese yen, lower than 120.10 yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar dropped to 0. 9262 Swiss francs from 0.9343 Swiss francs, and it slipped to 1. 2069 Canadian dollars from 1.2103 Canadian dollars. Endite
