Defending champion Li Xiaoxia reaches quarters at table tennis worlds

Xinhua, May 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Defending champion Li Xiaoxia was not really troubled by her opponent before reaching the women's singles quarterfinals at the World Table Tennis Championships on Friday.

Li, the 2012 London Olympics champion, defeated Jiang Huajun of Chinese Hong Kong 11-6, 11-3, 11-6, 12-10.

Li had total control of the first three sets, and the 34th ranked Jiang started to hit form in the fourth set but fell short.

"I was fully prepared but she was also prepared, so her attacking caused some trouble to me," the right-handed Li said of the match.

Li will be facing up against Japan's rising star Mima Ito in the quarterfinals, and Li said the key to victory will be "patience and calmness". Endi
