Nordic Regional to replace Flybe Nordic as new company name

Xinhua, April 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Regional airliner Flybe Nordic with have a new name - Nordic Regional - from the beginning of May, Finnish national carrier Finnair said on Friday.

The new name was created following the purchase by Finnair of the shares of Flybe Nordic that used to belong to Flybe UK.

With the new name, the company will start flying several Finnish and Northern European routes that used to be flown under Flybe route numbers, Finnair told Xinhua.

Finnair was temporarily sole owner of Nordic Regional Airlines. However, talks with Finnish companies Staffpoint Holding and G.W.Sohlberg about partial ownership continued.

The intention of the two companies to become minority owners in the regional airline was announced in January. Finnair CEO Pekka Vauramo said earlier in April that share transaction would hopefully be completed during the weeks ahead.

Beisides Finland, Nordic Regional will serve Norrkoping and Visby in Sweden and Tartu in Estonia.

In Finland, the new airline will fly from Helsinki to Kemi and Tornio, Kokkola, Kajaani, Mariehamn and Jyvaskyla.

The new name is still subject to approval by Finnish authorities, said Finnair.

Nordic Regional Airline will be flying 26 aircraft comprising ATR turboprops and Embraer jets. Endit
