Israel marks Independence Day with myriad celebrations

Xinhua, April 23, 2015 Adjust font size:

Israel on Thursday celebrated its 67th Independence Day with aerial shows, fireworks, parties and ceremonies.

The Israel Air Force (IAF) held aerial shows in major cities across the country. In Tel Aviv, Israel's largest coastal city, thousands of Israelis and foreign tourists braved the cold and windy weather watching the performance of the IAF acrobatic team along the Mediterranean coast.

Following the show of the acrobatic team, dozens of military planes, including fighter jets, tanker aircraft, transport planes and helicopters, flew along the beaches in different formations, to the applause of spectators.

According to the Hebrew calender, this year's Independence Day fell Thursday after Israelis honored their war dead and victims of terrorism on Wednesday.

Celebrations started Wednesday night with displays of fireworks in major cities. As part of the celebrations, Israelis also flocked to parks, forests and beaches attending barbecue parties or going on hikes during the Independence Day holiday. Endit
