Obama to meet leaders of 6 Gulf countries in May

Xinhua, April 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. President Barack Obama will meet with leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council member states in mid-May to discuss security cooperation, the White House announced on Friday.

Obama will welcome the leaders from Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates first to the White House on May 13 and then take them to Camp David, a presidential retreat in the U.S. state of Maryland, for more talks the next day.

"The gathering will be an opportunity for the leaders to discuss ways to enhance their partnership and deepen security cooperation," White House spokesman Josh Earnest said in a statement.

Obama first made known his invitation to the leaders early this month when he hailed a landmark framework deal reached with Iran over its controversial nuclear program. Endi
