FTSE 100 closes lower on Thursday

FTSE 100 Index, the British benchmark stock market gauge, decreased by 0.51 percent, or 36.33 points, to 7,060.45 points on Thursday.

Unilever's share price increased by 2.62 percent, topping the gainers of the blue chips. Aggreko, Randgold Resources Ltd., Royal Dutch Shell 'A' and GKN increased by 1.95 percent, 1.91 percent, 1.81 percent and 1.79 percent respectively.

Pearson led the losers of the blue chips with a share price drop of 3.99 percent, followed by Diageo (3.58 percent), Meggitt (3.10 percent), BAE Systems (3.10 percent) and Intu Properties (2.89 percent).

The index has gained 8.97 percent so far this year when measured in U.S. dollars. Endit
