Kerry at G7 meeting expresses confidence in U.S. agreement with Iran

Xinhua, April 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Wednesday said he is confident U.S. President Barack Obama will be able to negotiate an agreement with Iran.

Addressing a meeting of foreign ministers of the world's seven leading industrial countries (G7), Kerry said that the challenge is to "finish the negotiation with Iran over the course of the next two and a half months."

The U.S. government and a group of senators reached a compromise in a dispute over a planned agreement with Iran on Tuesday in Washington.

In a separate statement, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said he welcomed the United Nations Security Council's decision about the resolution against arms delivery to the Houthis in Yemen.

However, he noted that despite some progress, "we are far away from a situation in which we are able to calm the situation to de-escalate or to find a political solution."

The main themes of the two-day G7 meeting, which kicked off on Tuesday, include the Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East and the fight against terrorism. Endit
