Xinhua, April 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenya golf team jetted out Wednesday for Kampala, Uganda for the Zone VI competition, which has attracted 13 teams.

Peter Warui, the chairman of Kenya Golf Union, said the winner of the competition will secure the region's coveted Zone VI trophy and be allowed to compete in Africa PGA tour.

The nine-man team consists of eight senior and one junior players, with Bhavnish Chandaria being the team captain.

The Africa Zone VI event will be held in Kampala this weekend. Kenya has only won the event once in 2010 in Gaborone, Botswana and finished in fifth last year. However, the national team is in high spirits and hopes to perform well.

"Earlier in the week the team received the national flag from the Cabinet Secretary in charge of Sports Hassan Wario. We are inspired and ready for the action," said Warui.

The Zone VI event remains one of the most prestigious golf competitions in Africa. It was first played in Gaborone in February 1982 between countries in Africa Zone VI region. Competing countries include Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland, Malawi, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Namibia.

The format involves four rounds of golf with singles, foursomes, four ball better ball and final singles. Each country has eight players and a reserve. Endi
