Number of electric vehicles in Bulgaria surges in 2014

Xinhua, April 15, 2015 Adjust font size:

The number of electric vehicles in Bulgaria increased sharply in 2014, the Government Information Service (GIS) said in a press release Wednesday.

The total number of vehicles with entirely electric propulsion reached 497 at the end of December 2014, marking a 36 percent increase from a year earlier, GIS said.

Meanwhile, authorities have registered 1,031 hybrid vehicles, 61 percent more compared to the end of 2013.

The sustainable trend in the development of electric mobility was due to measures such as expanding the range of tax-free electric vehicles, such as motorcycles and mopeds, according to a government report.

"As a result of actions taken, there is an increased interest from foreign investors for production here of aggregates, components and parts for leading companies in the automotive industry," the report said. Endit
