Xinhua summary of Asia-Pacific stocks news at 1200 GMT, April 14

Tokyo shares ended slightly higher on Tuesday as investors maintained cautious ahead of the release of U.S. corporate earnings later in the day. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched up 3.22 points, or 0.02 percent, from Monday at 19,908.68.

The turnover was about 2,011.1 billion yen (about 16.78 billion U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- Chinese stocks ended mixed on Tuesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.34 percent, or 13.85 points, to finish at 4,135.56 points.

However, the Shenzhen Component Index lost 0.76 percent, or 107. 04 points, to close at 14,042.46 points.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.25 percent Tuesday with the weighted index down 24.3 points at 9,642.22, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 90.78 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.90 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

MANILA -- Philippine shares closed 0.21 percent lower on Tuesday.

The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index decreased by 16. 76 points to 8056.49. The all-share index went down by 10.84 points, or 0.23 percent, to 4605.92.

Trading volume reached 1.16 billion shares worth 8.42 billion pesos (189.15 million U.S. dollars).

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 558.67 points on Tuesday, down 0.87 points, or 0.16 percent, against the previous trading day's closing session.

About 69.539 million shares worth 1.324 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (61.71 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 70 stocks went up, 150 stocks fell down, while 65 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 82.2 points on Tuesday, down 0.46 points, or 0.55 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of 35.261 million shares worth 466.053 billion Vietnamese dong (21.83 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Tuesday, a decrease of 19.6 percent in volume and 10.43 percent in value against the previous trading session.

SEOUL -- Seoul shares ended higher on Tuesday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 12. 80 points, or 0.61 percent, to 2,111.72 at the close. Trading volume stood at 636.48 million shares worth 7.95 trillion won (7. 27 billion U.S. dollars).

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Tuesday after surging over the previous eight sessions.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index slipped 454.85 points, or 1.62 percent, to close on Tuesday at 27,561.49 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 27,483.45 and 27, 915.01. Turnover totaled 237.60 billion HK dollars (about 30.66 billion U.S. dollars).

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Tuesday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 36.69 points, or 1.05 percent, to close at 3,521.08.

A total of 3.48 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 51 billion Singapore dollars (1.11 billion U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Tuesday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,839.61 down 2.47 points or 0.13 percent, and the Emas was at 12,635.10 down 13.00 points or 0.10 percent.
