13 students hurt in Houston school bus collision

Xinhua, April 14, 2015 Adjust font size:

Two school buses collided head-on in the U.S. city of Houston on Monday, leaving 13 students and one adult injured, local authorities said.

The impact of the collision forced one of the buses into a ditch, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening, said Houston Fire Department district chief John Seamans.

Altogether 57 children and two adults -- the drivers -- were aboard the buses at the time, Seamans told the Houston Chronicle.

It is not clear how exactly the accident happened or who was at fault. Houston police are investigating the crash.

In a separate accident, an intoxicated driver ran a red light in north Houston and slammed his car to a station wagon, killing the wagon's driver.

The force of the impact caused a chain-reaction crash with three other vehicles, including a school bus. Fortunately there were no students on the bus. No other injuries were reported. Endi
